Title: [Release] LH_Monitoring (v1.05)
Post by: Triscopic on 2011-01-21 00:11:53
(You must be logged in to view these screen shots and download the plugin)
LH_Monitoring
Latest Version: v1.05

For new users:
LH_Monitoring is a plugin that will connect to a running instance of one of nine (ok, eight and a half) different 3rd party monitoring applications and allow you to display the sensor data they monitor on LCDHost in a number of forms, such as simple text, plot graphs over time, display a value as a bar or as a speedometer-style dial.

You also can display status icons based on various thresholds - 70°C worrying*? Have a warning image appear when the temperature reaches that level; 80°C really scary*? Lets have a bright red icon then. Likewise you can set thresholds for fan speeds, voltages (although I've never really understood the interest in that one), or anything else your favourite monitoring application uses. Use whatever icons you like and define 5 different statuses (using four threshold levels). See the included icon sets which are based on the excellent icon set "silk" from famfamfam.com (http://famfamfam.com).

It can monitor:

e.g.:
Here you can see my current layout, including
an array of temperatures and the speed of my
main fan.
And here's a (messy) sample using all eight
(because Everest doesn't really count as being
separate from Aida64) applications.

For old users:
After a month of hard coding I'm happy to announce that the replacement for the current monitoring plugins is (almost) ready. Shipping soon with LCDHost Alpha 14, this plugin is a major step up from the existing monitoring plugins.

Here's the full list of changes:

General
Aida64
Fraps
GPU-Z
Afterburner
RivaTuner
CoreTemp
SpeedFan

Download (http://www.codeleap.co.uk/lcdhost/lh_monitoring/LH_Monitoring.dll)

*I just pulled these numbers out of the air, and are by no means recommendations for your specific processor. I suggest you seek out the TjMax value for your processor (you can, ironically, get this easily from CoreTemp ;-p) and base your thresholds off that. Our mutual friend, Mr Google, should help you establish learn more about  TjMax. Alternatively if you've been monitoring your temperatures etc for a while you probably know what's normal for your system.

Note that the old separate monitoring plugins, LH_SpeedFan, LH_CoreTemp, etc etc will be discontinued and will not be compatible with A13.[/list]

Not yet, but I've been very busy getting everything working for A14!

Hmmm, playing with the fraps plugin, is there a special format to assign an image to a game? (in the advanced editing tab...)
EDIT: ok got it, the same as weather and status icones....
Title: Re: [Release] LH_Monitoring (v1.00)
Post by: Triscopic on 2011-01-26 15:03:58
Yes. As you've now worked out (I assume) it's <game name>[tab]<image path relative to the layout>. However the "game name" bit is determined by fraps - it's usually the exe name, but no guarantees. For example for Starcraft2 it's SC2 but for windows it's DWM.

I think the best way is to add items via the drop down (non-advanced) method - run the game and then quit and the fraps condition image will "learn" the correct name. Select it from the drop down and add the image. The advanced thing is good for deleting undesired entries.

Post by: Ender91 on 2011-01-26 15:20:27
Yep, great plugin...! I'm maybe going to make a "gaming" layout, as the G19 is for gamers, it might interest some.... ;), in that way, i was wondering, as UT2004 has a G15 plugin, would you be able to get those data? (for a better display on a G19, a sweet layout....)

Hello Triscopic,

Great work with the plugins :)

Would it be possible to add RealTemp to LH_Monioring? The issue is SpeedFan and CoreTemp simply do not update the products often enough. For example I upgraded to Sandy Bridge a few days ago and to my knowledge SpeedFan and CoreTemp do not support it yet properly. Only one that does that I know of is RealTemp 3.67 which is what I am using.

Thanks.

Sadly, no, it's not possible, otherwise I would have done so already. I looked into supporting RealTemp when I was starting LH_Monintoring, but RealTemp fundamentally doesn't support sharing it's data with other applications like many other products do (e.g. CoreTemp & SpeedFan).

I posted a question about that on the RealTemp forums and UncleWebb (the author of RealTemp) responded (http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2091267&postcount=112) saying he had no plans to add it in. He even went so far as to recommend CoreTemp as a substitute.

EDIT: You could try Aida64 - it probably supports Sandy Bridge* and does work with LH_Monitoring. It's a commercial product though. All that said, it has a month trial which might be enough time for something else to catch up.

After more than one hour of search for my eos modified theme I didn't find them and I really would like to add these 2 functions .

thanks and again GOOD JOB !

Yes, but they're not in lh_monitoring as this just connects to 3rd party tools, none of which monitor that data.

Look under System > Network

There you'll see two groups, one for inbound and the other outbound traffic, bar/dial/graph/text

I found that but it is the bandwidth not bytes sent or received

I ll try to ask support on lcdhost main post

Post by: Triscopic on 2011-05-07 12:12:30
Right I see what yr after. LH_Monitoring only makes data from other 3rd party monitorig tools available to lcdhost. If none of those monitor bytes sent or received (and I dint think that's the sort of thing they do monitor as it's mainly about the sensors on your motherboard such as fan speeds and temperature levels.

I suggest you request this as a new feature in the bug tracker (link on the linkdata.se home page)

Hi,

i like the tool very much. But with Aida64 extreme i cant read out every sensor which are shown. Every other infos are displayed, but the HDD temp and the Chassis Fan option doenst work.
I activated them in the Aida preferences and i can choose them in LCDHost.
But it always shows N/A. What did i forget?

Maybe someone know how to fix it?
Title: Re: [Release] LH_Monitoring (v1.05)

I had this issue, it has to do with which sensors are enabled in the shared memory option (had to "play" with that a bit and it got fixed...).

Aida64 not show the temperatures of the HDD

Does this have any settings to display data from the HDD?

I'd love to but CPU-Z doesn't support it. If you have found any sort of Windows Gadget (aka Vista SideBar gadget) that pulls data from it let me know and I can see what it does, but officially they don't support 3rd party applications reading their sensor data.

All I can suggest is that you look at one of the other 9-soon-to-be-10 (and hopefully, shortly after that, 11 if HWiNFO adds support for 3rd parties) monitoring options.

The latest alpha updated the LH_Monitoring plugin to v1.06, and I lost all my status images (more accurately, the LH_Monitorng/SpeedFanStatusImage components). They are all there physically, but are showing a question mark. Apparently you have completely changed the way these status images are handled. It used to be simple: we had a sensor#, the displayed value for checking, and the name of a text file to map value->.jpg pairs. Now the latter is gone, replaced by a field for an "image" (not plural), and is greyed out anyway apparently until I choose a "data source" or "data link" whatever they are.

So, help please?

GPU-Z can only monitor one GPU at a time.

Try MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, HWiNFO or Aida64 (Aida is not freeware). ATITrayTools might do it too.

I might be dumb however i am unable to get this to work properly.  I have tried with default, i have an ati video card, tried downloading core temp, and speed fan.

I am still unable to get any core temp, fan temps, or gpu temps

Windows 7 x64
intel 2600k
p8z68-v pro

any suggestions on how to get this functioning?  If there is custom configuration needed to enabled this portion i am at a loss on where to locate it.

additionally just tryed aida64 and that isn't functioning either

I'm not sure if SpeedFan will help you with gpu temps - it doesn't report mine. For that I use MSI Afterburner.

SpeedFan doesn't require any additional setup, so once once it's installed LCDHost should be able to get data from it simply by adding a "Monitoring Text" object from the 3rd Party/Monitoring folder. Once you've added the Monitoring Text object, select it and then make sure you select SpeedFan as the application to connect to and select a type (e.g. Temperature) and value (e.g. Temperature 1).

If that isn't working open speedfan and confirm that there are sensors listed on the "Readings" tab - usually fans on the left and temperatures on the right.

It's a wireless mouse and the only way to really check the battery life is by clicking on my system try and mousing over the razer icon. I would like to have a monitoring bar on my LCDhost layout that can tell me at all times what my battery levels are at. afterburner can read out (show on g15/g19/...) the used api of the current game or app (ogl/dx9/dx10/dx11).
it would be great to read out and use this info with lcdhost.

(http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/2058/testzc.th.jpg) (http://img28.imageshack.us/i/testzc.jpg/)

you have to overwrite the dll plugins for the changes to take effect.
you have several options if you do not work.
If overwrite the dll still not working active box bolbera update the program only assume default state and then exit and reenter.
if the program I advise you very manipulated to uninstall it and delete any registry trace of the program and install it again.
then follow the steps above before adding the plugins

Got an odd problem I can't figure out... I'm trying to use conditional formatting on a LH_Monitoring/MonitoringBar.

Its picking up the GPU temps but I can't get the background to change colour... I've got two simple levels for testing <=35 background black, >35 background red.  But it never changes from black (even though the bar correctly moves) when I stress the card.

I can do this simple conditional formatting fine on LH_Monitoring/MonitoringText to change the text colour

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

I dont get all Sensor data in the list for HWiNFO, missing "GPU Memory Load" and other sensor (data but this is needed for my layout)

Anyway to get this to work using Asus AI suite? I'd rather not install another monitoring app when I've already got one.

Hey there,

Any chance of getting Open Hardware Monitor (http://openhardwaremonitor.org/) support?
You can get a buttload of good info from that application - including the state of your SSDs.

Hello all, I've been using lcdhost with LH_Monitoring since I first got my g19.
I just discovered this board, and there is just a single feature that i've been looking into adding to my lcd host for like, forever, but never could find out where.

I wanted to have a constant ping to an IP I determined and the ping result to show in the tracker.
Do you think it's possible to add this to your plugin? I know the network ins and outs you probably get directly from windows, and that a ping could be harder, but so far, it's the only thing that I'm missing from lcdhost at all :), and your plugin does 99% of what I use already.

Cheers

Use redirection, for example:

ping 192.168.1.1 -t > filename.txt

This will redirect all (standard) output from the program in to filename.txt, which will be created if it doesn't exist and overwritten if it does.

You can instead use >> instead of > to redirect the output to a file and append the results to the end of the file, instead of overwriting (with thanks to @Jane T for the reminder).

Note that you will not recieve the normal on-screen output if you do this.
Update in response to comment

To delay between pings and record the time of each you can do some scripting.

Here is a quick Windows batch file I've thrown together, it prints the time, pings google, then waits for 3 seconds before repeating itself. I'm not a batch file expert so if anyone spots any problems please flag them up! And this probably isn't the "best" way to achieve what you are after - that might make for a seperate question really.

@ECHO OFF

:LOOPSTART

time /T
ping www.google.com -n 4
sleep -m 3000

GOTO LOOPSTART

Save this in a .bat file somewhere, edit the ping target and delay time as you need it, then run the .bat using redirection to pump the output of the whole thing to a file.

Note that this batch file never ends, but can be terminated by Ctrl + C and then Y if run from cmd. (You must press Y because it asks if you want to stop the batch file - even thought you cannot see the question because you've redirected the output!)

when you have the ping.file use dataviewer to read the values from this file and show them on the display ;)

I wasn't aware that it was possible.
I just did it, the ping.txt file is ready, but I tried following the guide in the lh_dataviewer, and it's sooo hard to make it work.

Do I have to make the ping.bat and put it into the data map, and ping.txt in data source or do I have to have the ping.bat always running, and just put in the data source ping.txt?
also, these are the contents of ping.bat

ping 8.8.8.8 -t > ping.txt

it seems the ping.txt is always 0 or 1 byte, not really sure if it's correct like this

And i third that! I use Open Hardware Monitor to monitor my system and send software data to my Aquaero 5 LT.

I really would like to keep an eye on my GPU and VRM temps during heavy gaming or benching. The only problem is that Aida64 is very heavyweight on the resources and costs me 6-10 FPS just to run it on the background. Also Aida64 (and HWinfo for that matter) take quite a long time to load!

Most of the monitoring programs can't communicate with Aquasuite or the Aquaero 5 LT and running two monitoring applications further increases the overhead..

It seems that Speedfan was once compatible with Aquasuite, but it isn't any more, so i don't have an out-of-the-box solution at the moment to achieve both goals: sending data to G19 and sending data to the Aquaero!

Cheers, John

AIDA uses ~20MB RAM and it runs with lcdHost and Aquasuite at the same time .. it uses a max from 0,3 % CPU -

Right now AIDA send data to AS and G19 Layout.

Hello,
Since several LCDHost releases (maybe 0.27), monitoring graph behaviour is not correct. I use LCDHost 0.34 with HWInfo64 monitoring tool.
Problem description : "monitoring graph" class instance always display all item lines, whatever item is selected. It should only display the line matching item selected. I tried the tip from Tricopic (http://forum.linkdata.se/lcdhost-plugins/release-lhgraph-v1.3-124.msg1752.html#msg1752 (http://forum.linkdata.se/lcdhost-plugins/release-lhgraph-v1.3-124.msg1752.html#msg1752)) but HWInfo64 provides 3 more fields in item list (average, min and max) which cannot be made transparent.

Thanks a lot for the great tool LCDHost.
